It's hard to believe we already have two weeks of school under our belts. The beginning of the new year has truly flown by. Everyone is starting to adjust to the new routine and settle in for the year. Just a few reminders...
Please be sure to have your child dress appropriately for recess. It is recommended that students not wear flip flops or sandals as they are difficult to climb and run in - and mulch sometimes can interfere with those types of shoes. (Let's avoid injuries if at all possible!) Some days have been chillier than others, so please send a light jacket on those days just in case your child gets a little cold.
Open House is right around the corner! Please note your child's date below. Open House will run from 6:30-8:00pm on all three nights:
Wednesday, September 18th - 4th grade
Thursday, September 19th - 1st and 2nd grades
Thursday, September 26th - Kindergarten and 3rd grade
Please join us for our first PTA meeting on Thursday, September 19th at 8:30 am. PTA is a great way to get involved. If you are unable to attend the meeting during the day, please join us next month as the meeting will be in the evening.
Harvest Fest is just about a month away, which means it's time for planning! We would love to have you attend our Harvest Fest planning meeting on September 25th at 6:30. Can't make it? No worries! You can still sign up to volunteer to work a station on that date. Be looking for a sign-up sheet to come home in the near future. Even an hour of your time makes a HUGE difference. Please help make this fun event a success.
I am looking forward to another great year. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Happy Fall!

Spring Weather
Spring weather has finally arrived. I know many of you and your children are pulling out those sandals and flip flops, so it is a good time to send out a reminder to please make sure you are sending your child to school with shoes that are safe for playground play. Sandals and flip flops are fun, but they can cause safety issues when running, climbing and playing outdoors. Sneakers are always the best bet!

Reading in the Winter
Winter is here. The air is cold and sometimes it's nice to just curl up on the couch, sip a cup of hot chocolate and read a good book. Yesterday SES sent home reading logs to all students so they can step up to the challenge of our Winter Warm Up reading motivational program. Students who fill their reading logs will turn them in and receive a free book for their hard work! Read, Read Read!!!
Running out of books for your child to read? No problem! We will be having a Scholastic Book Fair on Jan. 28th and 30th from 5:30-7:30 in the library. Come out and find some new and exciting books to help your child successfully complete the Winter Warm Up challenge.

Happy Thanksgiving
It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving has almost arrived and that the holiday season will soon be upon us. Students have been busy studying about the first Thanksgiving, making special art projects, writing about what they are thankful for, and doing turkey activities. It's certainly a busy and exciting time of year at our school!
Please remember that Wednesday, November 21st is a half day and we will be dismissing at 1:05 pm. If you are traveling, please be safe. I wish everyone a wonderful and happy Thanksgiving!

Bundle Up
Brrrr. It's getting coooold out there! Please be sure to send your child to school with a jacket or coat. They will still be going out to recess every day (except for on rainy days) so we want them to be toasty warm!
