It's a Wonderful Time of the Year

It's that time of year when our children get that little spark in their eyes and their excitement grows each day.  The temperatures have dropped and some days the children arrive at school all bundled up like little Eskimos, as the song goes.  Others have come to school in their pajamas and slippers ready for an exciting Pajama Day.  Fourth graders have arrived to school carrying beautiful Geo Cities they created while studying geometry.  Some classrooms have sharpened their math skills by creating Geo-Houses with graham crackers, frosting and candy.  First graders enjoyed a visit with South Elementary retired teachers as they read a variety of winter stories aloud.  As these activities draw to a close along with 2011, I want to take this time to extend warm wishes to all of our South Elementary families.  We will see you in 2012!

Eric Carle Masterpieces

First and second grade art classes have been working on collages based upon the work of author/artist Eric Carle. After reading his book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, students were able to take a closer look at the illustrations and make observations about Carle's work.

Take a peek at the children's work by clicking on the link below!

A Thanksgiving Tradition

For the past ten years, PSHS football players and cheerleaders visit South Elementary School during Thanksgiving week to read some classics to our students.  On Monday, the tradition continued as SES students listened intently to their role models as they read aloud.  This is a special time for our students and we greatly appreciate the football players and cheerleaders for sharing this special moment with us once again this year.

September Bucket Fillers

We try to promote positive behaviors and kindness amongst our students.  Students who are identified as "Bucket Fillers" are students who displayed a positive behavior or attitude that made others feel good.  So far we have had 55 Bucket Fillers.  If your child received one, he or she should have brought home a Bucket Filler certificate and a Red Robin certificate for a free kid's meal.  Congratulations to our Bucket Fill-ing students!!!
